Strategic Communications/Stakeholder Engagement Result in Body Cameras for Austin Police Department
Taser International, now Axon, makes communities safer with innovative public safety technologies that protect life and truth. Founded in 1993, Axon first transformed law enforcement with electrical weapons. Today they continue to define smarter policing with a growing suite of technology solutions.
Axon faced intense public scrutiny in Austin, TX and criticism from the activist community in the days leading to a city council vote to secure a contract for police body cameras. Following weeks of delay by the city council, Axon engaged The Monument Group to highlight its superior bid and technology, its strong endorsement from the Austin Police Department, and the community’s overwhelming interest in deploying police body cameras as soon as possible.
We worked with the media to underscore the facts surrounding the RFP process, protest and the responsiveness of Axon’s proposal, recruited and mobilized supporters whose influential voices would lend credibility and urgency to the program. By a large majority, the city council approved the 7-year, $12 million contract with Axon for the immediate deployment of police body cameras in the City of Austin.
