The Monument Group, LLC, was established in mid-2008 as a partnership of public affairs practitioners Scott Dunaway and Russ Keene.  Our principals and staff of seven bring years of Austin and Washington experience to the table for our clientele, having served in presidential campaigns and administrations, gubernatorial and congressional campaigns and holding professional staff positions in the Texas Legislature and U.S. Congress.  The principals also have extensive private sector experience as employees of and consultants to companies ranging from NYSE traded Fortune 500 companies to start up ventures and trade associations.

Scott Dunaway- Partner

Scott Dunaway has an extensive track record of success in strategic communication, media relations, government relations, public advocacy, fundraising and issues management.   Prior to founding Dunaway Public Relations in 2006 and the formation of The Monument Group two years later, Scott served in the administration of President George W. Bush as a deputy press secretary to Secretaries of Commerce Don Evans and Carlos Gutierrez, working with both foreign and domestic press on U.S. international trade policy.  He also led media relations at the G-8 Economic Summit of Industrialized Nations hosted by President Bush in Sea Island, GA.  Scott also served on staff for three years in the U.S. House of Representatives handling media relations and later legislative business for Congressman Kevin Brady, R-The Woodlands, TX.  Scott consulted to Romney for President in 2007-08 and also provided research services to the Senator John Cornyn re-elect and Texas Republican Party’s Victory 2008 effort.  Scott’s experience lies mostly in the energy, transmission, finance, healthcare, technology and communications sectors.

Russ Keene- Partner

A sixth-generation Texan originally from Dallas, Russ Keene has intricate knowledge of the state’s public policy process and business community leadership.  His expertise includes public affairs advocacy strategy, corporate positioning and media relations.  Russ co-founded The Monument Group in mid- 2008 after leading the Austin office of global public relations firm Burson-Marsteller for five and one-half years.  At Burson, and at the Washington-based international business advisory firm Kissinger-McLarty Associates, Russ advised some of the country’s leading brands on business development, communications and government relations strategy. Russ’ earlier career included communications and government relations positions in Texas and Washington with Aetna, American Gas Association and Enserch Corp. He has held management positions in attorney general, gubernatorial, state legislative and presidential campaigns.
